Eley, a long-standing customer based near Birmingham, has relied on our Guardian 90 Checkweighers for nearly 30 years. While the original machines remained operational, increasing line speeds and the growing difficulty of sourcing spare parts led to the decision to upgrade.
We designed and manufactured a cost-effective, reliable replacement for the Guardian 90 Checkweighers using technology from our latest Dini Argeo range, while keeping the system simple and easy to maintain. The new checkweigher delivers an accuracy of ±0.5g on a 200g pack at speeds of up to 140 packs per minute, exceeding performance expectations.
The project was delivered on time and within budget, with minimal issues resolved quickly during pre-delivery inspection. Since installation, the machine has operated with zero downtime, meeting the target of 98% uptime.
This successful installation marks the first of three planned upgrades at Eley and highlights our ability to provide long-term, reliable solutions tailored to customer needs.
Knighton Foods approached Driver Southall to replace outdated checkweighers due to service issues. Following a site visit, we identified the need for a bespoke solution on one line because of limited space and a 33% speed increase, with both machines requiring compliance to the latest supermarket COPS standards. The customer selected our DS300S Checkweigher, and we worked closely with the Project Manager to deliver a high-performance, easy-to-maintain solution. The machines were built at our headquarters in Burntwood, with regular inspections during production, and demonstrated accuracy of ±0.3g at 120 PPM during PDI, where training was also provided.
Installation was completed quickly with minimal modifications, and the customer praised the machines’ ease of use, build quality, and the team’s flexibility. This project marks our first installation at a Premier Foods site, with further opportunities already being explored. With support from Unitech Engineering and Unitech Industries, we continue to provide complete turnkey solutions for packing and processing lines.
